Five Year Anniversary

Exactly five years ago today, January 8 2007, I uploaded my first ever video tutorial to YouTube. I remember sitting down at midday and recording a tutorial looking at how to create a bolt of lightning in Photoshop CS2, and then uploading it to an old YouTube account I already had going. It took me two takes to record the entire thing, a far cry from the hours of preparation, recording, editing and presenting that my videos take nowadays.

Happy Holidays 2011

Today is December 25th and if you’re like me you’ll be spending it unwrapping a few presents, enjoying a meal with the family, and relaxing around the bright lights of the Christmas tree. It’s a time to appreciate what I have, and reflect on the many good things that have happened over the year.

A Beginner’s Guide to Photoshop Elements 9 - Coming Soon!
Over the past few months I’ve been thinking about re-recording my popular video series ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Photoshop Elements’, updating it from version 6 to 9. It’s a lot of work so it wasn’t a decision I could take lightly, as not only would I need to update parts of the course that had changed through the versions, but also add additional content on other essential commands and new features that came along with version 9.

A few weeks ago I stepped down from my position of moderator at photoshopforums.com to focus on other things including writing and recording more tutorials for this site. During my 27 months at PhotoshopForums.com I wrote 13 quick-fire tutorials for the Tutorials and Featured Tips section, some of them, I'm pleased to say, receiving over 5000 views.

Tobago 2010- Blog Post
A couple of weeks ago I booked a weeks’ holiday in Tobago, then, without warning, some volcano in Iceland decided to erupt resulting in the UK and other European countries closing their air space. The saga began as an understandable reaction to some kind of volcanic dust entering our skies and ended with the longest and most expensive grounding of flights in European history.

10 Free Applications That Make This Site Possible
Only this morning I was out walking when an elderly gentlemen stopped me and asked if I could direct him towards Long Melford. It being a town only 20 minutes from where I live, and one I regularly drive through while on my way to Portman Road (the home of my favourite football team) I immediately suggested he turn his car around, take a left at the mini-roundabout, follow the road for around 3 miles until he sees a signpost for Clare, take the left and keep going until he cruises down a big old hill and into the town of Long Melford.

The Facebook 100 -Blog Entry

Today, Sunday 14 March 2010, saw our 100th person become a fan of the official 3photoshop.com fan page on Facebook.

Having launched on 21 October 2009, I have to say I'm immensely proud of attracting that many fans in the space of 144 days, especially considering that after a relatively slow start we saw 72 people become fans inside the last 72 days, indicating that as we grow, the rate of fans clicking on that little 'become a fan' button has grown too.

Quicktime Out - Flash In - Blog Post

Over the last few weeks I've been busily compressing our entire quicktime video collection to flash. Even though there's no change to the size, the collection itself, or the way they play on the site, I figured for full disclosure of what the site is going through (aka a site blog), I'd keep you updated on the latest why's and how's. For the technical stuff, read on.

November Update in December - Blog Post

Just over 3 weeks ago I posted a November update to my Youtube channel, today, as we head towards mid December, I thought I'd add it to the site just in case any of you missed it.

Essentially it's a quick promotional video for 3photoshop.com. It runs for just over a minute, and quickly explains how you get to the site, what's here when you arrive, the benefits of registering and information about our Facebook and Twitter pages.

I've embedded the video below.

Enjoy!

Out with the old Blog Post

After nearly a year in the making, welcome, finally, to the new and improved 3photoshop website. If you’ve visited before, you should notice a considerable difference (and improvement) between the old site and the new. If it’s not apparent from the look and feel, then let me assure you, things behind the scene have not just been updated, but completely ripped out and rebuilt. Why would I do such a thing? For two (main) reasons! One, we now have a community instead of just a website, and two, it’s made it so much easier to update and maintain.

Have Your Say Blog Entry

Long before I converted this site to Drupal, back in the days of the static-HTML version, I longed to place a poll on here to give me some sort of idea as to what the viewers of the site wanted to see more of. At the time, building a complex poll way surpassed my capability and perhaps was too intense to pull off easily with the software I was using, so I looked for a free service on the world wide web.
