A few months ago we celebrated a huge landmark here at 3photoshop.com – five years since our first video was published on YouTube. Today we celebrate another important occasion – our name and website are five years old today.

3photoshop.com circa 2007-2008That’s right, today, five years ago, I registered the domain 3photoshop.com and shortly thereafter our website was born. Of course, it didn’t look much like it does today. It was very basic and was put together manually using Adobe Dreamweaver from the Creative Suite; it was extremely labour intensive and a pain in the neck to update.

Thing is though; it worked!

Up to that point we didn’t have an official name; we were known as ‘Matty Boy Productions’ simply because I had to put something on YouTube (who were hosting our videos at the time) and that was the best I could do in the time I had. I knew that registering a domain and designing the site would require a name and logo we intended to use long-term; and after much deliberation with a number of potential ideas swirling around in my head I went with 3photoshop.com, and I’m glad I did.

I hope the name and site have become synonymous with high quality, respected and valued tutorials that people can use to better themselves, day in and day out. Quality over quantity any day of the week for me.

These days the site runs on Drupal and all the data is served dynamically using a database – certainly saves me a lot of work. I’ve released over 30 hours of video training and have over 1,000 members – which together I’m very proud of.

It’s incredible how fast five years have gone by but I look ahead, quite happily, to the next five. Who knows where we’ll be, what we’ll be doing, and what version of Photoshop I’ll be recording tutorials for. Who knows the new features and commands I’ll be explaining. Who knows what kind of machines/computers I’ll be doing it on – all I know is; I really hope I’ll still be doing it.

Thanks to everyone who’s been a part of it.
