I wish for... some guidance on creating actions
There are some things I repeat over and over and over... and I would love to get them into a macro/action. I've been doing a lot of extractions and the 'select background, inverse, modify, contract 3 px, feather 1px, copy selection to new layer' gets tiresome. I'd also like to do some more involved macros that require input - select colour for example.
Some help to get going would be great.

Interesting subject. How many times have we made an action that works beautifully on one image but then fails miserably on the next? User input is a big one, and you're so right about how much time even a simple action can save. I have recorded a basic actions video tutorial but that only covers the essentials, getting down to the more complex regions of an action sounds like an interesting and challenging topic. How does something like a copyright/watermark action sound?

That does sound good - thanks for considering it Matt. I did get going with your basic actions - very useful! But the stopping for input, eg asking for a colour to be picked, a file to be chosen or as in your suggestion, text to be input, sounds really great.
