Ptinting images.
I have only been working with photoshop for a short period of time. I know now that it's not anything to do with photoshop. Here is my problem. During the summer I started to scan a large number of pictures. They were all take over the years with 35mm camera which wasn't a digital . some of these pictures are anywhere from 40 plus year old black and white pictures which I have no idea the type of camera they were taken with, to 35mm color photos I spoke about were all taken by me and my wife. I then got a injet HP printer so we could print the ones we like best. I tried printing them and the color came out just fine but the image was distorted. It is almost like I had used the transform tool on them and of course, I did not. The reason why I likened it to the transform tool is because it looks like it was scaled in the horsontal direction and the people all look way to thin than they are. the same in the vertical where they appear taller and thinner than they are. When I say scaled, I mean to the point that it is almost laughable. Now in my photos it works for me because I have enough girth to work with. LOL But, in the case of 110 lbs women and children it looks freaky. I took the same .jpg files that I scanned and got this effect from and uploaded them to Walgreens.com and then to walmart.com. I got the same thing from both of them that I was having from the ones that printed. Does anyone know what may be causing this?? I would really like to hear from anyone. Thank you.
Hi John,
The pixel dimensions of the scanned images could be the problem here.
Standard photos print to a ratio of 6 x 4, or 7 x 5, or 8 x 6. This is to say for example, that an image printed to a size of 6 x 4 should have 6 pixels in width to every 4 pixels in height. It sounds like the printer is making it's own adjustments to accommodate the non-standard size of your scanned images, so transforming them to match the size of the print.
Here's something you can try. First, establish the dimensiopns you're printing to. Next, select the Crop Tool and change the dimensions in the options bar to whatever you want to ultimately print to. Crop the image at a high resolution, preferably something like 300 pixels per inch, and then try printing again.
Hope that helps
Matt
I'll try that right now. Thanks Matt.
No probs John, let me know how you get on!
