I'm having a problem with the Select/Color Range command. When I use this option the preview window shows a complete selection of the color that I want but when I click 'OK' it only selects a small proportion of the image. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks

Colour Range Madness

Hey Chawil,

A couple of things I'd suggest looking into....

  • Is there a selection active when choosing the command
  • Reset the dialogue box to ensure none of the seeings are messed up, do that by holding down the Alt/Option key and pressing the reset button
  • Are you using layers, make sure the active layer has no areas of transparency. Not a big factor but may cause problems somewhere down the line.
  • Try restarting Photoshop/computer - this may reset any weird bugs causing the problem.

If you still have no luck, feel free to email me the image, include your settings, and I'll try it out this end.

Hope that helps

Selecting a colour range

Dear Matt,

Have tried several things including flattening the image before selection, turning off 'Local clusters' and increasing the fuzziness. The image is quite bulky so I don't know if you want the download, and, if so, do you want it complete with layers or should I flatten it? Will be in .psd if you think it's worth the time. Could do a couple of screen shots to show the preview screen and the image with the selection active as jpegs if that's any better. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi chawil,

Either is fine by me. Happy to take the image with layers intact but how big is big?
