Saving a TIFF Video Tutorial

The Tagged Image File Format is a great way to apply loseless compression to an image. Thanks to it's popularity within the world of graphic design and image editing, the TIFF file has become a common format for achiving and even short term storage. In this tutorial we'll look at how a TIFF file can be used along side Adobe Photoshop.

Are Tiff Files a better file to archive then raw?

In the video you stated that TIFF is a great format to archive files, but you don't mention raw at all. Is this because of raws file size is so large?

I'd go for the DNG format

Hi there,

When creating the 'file formats' mini-series I didn't get around to covering all formats. RAW standards are some that I missed. I hope to get around to it some day.

I'd recommend either leaving RAW files alone for achiving, or doing what I do and convert them to DNG. This is becoming more and more popular amongst photographers and is as close to a long-term standard as we've got.

TIFF is ideal for achieiving scanned etc images rather than using JPEG.

Hope that helps

Matt
